Brady Tkachuk breaks silence on NY Rangers trade rumors after Senators owner alleged "soft tampering"
Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk has finally broken his silence regarding recent trade rumors linking him to the New York Rangers. This comes after Senators owner Michael Andlauer alleged there was "soft tampering" occurring.
Tkachuk made it clear he was not bothered by the speculation and trusted the Senators' management.
“It’s stuff that I can’t control so, to be honest with you, it doesn’t really bother me because it’s coming from a place where it’s not true,” Tkachuk said via The Ottawa Citizen. “It just speaks to the leadership we have in this organization with Mr. Andlauer and Steve [Staois].”
The rumors stemmed from The New York Times' Larry Brooks, who reported that the Rangers have made Tkachuk their top trade target. This subsequently angered Senators owner Michael Andlauer, who spoke out against the "soft tampering" he felt was occurring.
"This is about protecting our fans, our players and their families," Andlauer said at the NHL's Board of Governors meeting in Florida. "Brady and his wife just had a baby. They don’t need that in their lives."
Tkachuk confirmed he had spoken directly with Senators General Manager Steve Staios who assured him there was no truth to the Rangers rumors.
Brady Tkachuk likely to stay long term in Ottawa
Brady Tkachuk made it clear that he sees his long-term future with the Ottawa Senators despite constant speculation about his status with the team.
The forward signed a seven-year, $57.5 million contract in 2021.
“The reason I signed a seven-year deal is because I believe in this team, in what we’re doing and I believe in everybody,” Tkachuk said via The Hockey News. “Not just in this room, but everybody in this building that we’re pushing in the right direction. I signed here for seven years because I love playing here.”
Tkachuk was drafted by Ottawa No. 4 overall in 2018 and has been a central part of the team's rebuilding effort. With his non-stop motor and leadership abilities, Tkachuk is viewed as a core piece for the Senators going forward. He has 29 points this season through 13 goals and 16 assists in 27 games.
