Brady Tkachuk makes his feelings known after a brutal stick to face results in nine stitches and one lost tooth
Brady Tkachuk made his feelings known after taking a brutal stick to the face during a 3-2 overtime win against the Calgary Flames. The Ottawa Senators captain needed nine stitches and lost a tooth but still scored the game-winning goal.
Despite the pain, Tkachuk kept his humor, saying he was glad the team had already done their Christmas pictures. His ability to laugh through the injury shows why he is one of the most complete players in the game.
“I don’t feel too good,” Brady said (via sportsnet). “I don’t feel too good looking right now either. Thank god we got the Christmas pictures done already.”
Tkachuk took a high stick from Flames captain Mikael Backlund during the second period. His face swelled up, but he returned to the game after getting medical treatment. He later sent a picture of his injury to his family, who jokingly called him a “mutt.”
“I’ve already sent pictures to the family group chat and I’ve already seen texts back like ‘mutt’ and stuff like that,” Tkachuk added.
Brady Tkachuk goal in overtime was his 16th of the season and helped the Senators win their fifth straight game. Despite the injury, he played through the pain and made a key contribution to his team's success.
Nick Cousins praises Brady Tkachuk's leadership and clutch play after injury
Brady Tkachuk thanked the Flames' medical staff and dentists for their help. He also reflected on the strong connections he made in Calgary, especially while watching his brother, Matthew, play for the Flames. Tkachuk said it was nice to hear the word "family" during his treatment.
“They did a great job in there,” Brady continued. “It was funny, we were reminiscing over some good memories that we’ve here in this building. I think the word ‘family’ came out, so that was great. It just shows the impact Matthew had and what kind of teammate he was and how he treated everybody. They did a great job and I’m very thankful for the doctors.”
Tkachuk injury in Calgary is just another example of his strength. His teammate, Nick Cousins, praised him for his leadership and clutch play in overtime.
“It just shows the character for him to come back. He’s been clutch for us in OT here early on in the season. Obviously a tremendous player and I have a lot of respect for how he carries himself," Cousins said.
After the injury, Brady Tkachuk didn’t consider wearing a bubble to protect his face. He said he couldn’t feel his teeth anyway. His injury didn’t stop him from helping his team win.
