Brett Pesce narrates hilarious story of his dad Brian leaking his Hurricanes future on social media
Defenseman Brett Pesce narrated a hilarious story about how his dad, Brian Pesce, leaked info on social media about his future with the Carolina Hurricanes. Brett signed a six-year, $33 million contract with the New Jersey Devils on July 1 after spending the first nine seasons of his NHL career with the Hurricanes.
In an interview on Wednesday with Morning Cuppa Hockey, he explained how his dad Brian is very active on social media and led to some awkward situations that Brett has had to deal with.
"The game we lost after Game 6 (against New York Rangers in Round 2) like, you know, I'm devastated, I know that this could be my last game didn't even get to play with the boys.
"My wife looks on Twitter, and an hour later post our season being over, he's thanking the fans and telling them he's gonna come back for when I play the canes.”
At the time, Brett Pesce was still with Carolina.
"Dad, I'm trying to stay a Cane - this isn't over yet, what are you doing?" But his dad brushed it off saying "Oh f*** you, I can do whatever I want."
Brett was so upset he didn't speak to his dad for a week, which was tough since they are very close. His dad eventually apologized but clearly didn't think it was a big deal to jump the gun on contract news.
It wasn't the only social media mishap by Brett's dad. On at least three occasions, Brett has had to call his dad and tell him to take down posts that revealed too much about his contract status or future plans.
Brett Pesce discusses the reason for signing with the Devils
Brett Pesce opened up about his thought process behind leaving the Carolina Hurricanes and signing with the Devils during the offseason.
"I loved my time in Carolina. They were my first choice, obviously, if everything worked out. From a financial standpoint, it did not work, which is fine; it is all good; it is the nature of the beast," Brett Pesce said on Morning Cuppa Hockey.
"I wanted to be home. I am a homebody. My family is from here - grandparents, friends, you name it." he explained.
Beyond that, he was very impressed with the Devils' young, talented roster.
“I was just like, wow, they are good. They are so young, so they are only going to get better. When they were calling, it was a no-brainer for me."
Pesce was originally drafted by the Hurricanes as the 66th overall in 2013. He went on to play over 600 games for Carolina and was a key part of their defense during their last five playoff runs.
