Bruins CEO addresses RFA Jeremy Swayman's contract situation, labels it as "unfinished business" this offseason
The Boston Bruins still haven't signed starting goalie Jeremy Swayman and he remains an RFA.
The team's CEO Charlie Jacobs spoke to the media and said getting Swayman signed is something that needs to be done ASAP.
"I try not to comment on player personnel contract negotiations. We are still negotiating with Sway," the Bruins CEO and alternate governor said on Gresh & Fauria, via NESN. "I hope that he's ready to play come training camp. We have some things to work out. I'm sure we'll get there."
Jacobs says getting the contract with Swayman done is unfinished business for the Bruins.
Swayman and the Bruins opted not to file for arbitration, which many assumed meant a deal was close to being done, but nothing has been made official.
Swayman went 25-10-8 last season, with a 2.53 GAA, and a .916 SV%, while having a .933 SV% and a 2.15 GAA in 12 playoff appearances. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL Draft.
Former Bruins goalie says Jeremy Swyaman contract will get done
After Jeremy Swayman didn't file for arbitration, many thought a deal would get done soon, but that hasn't happened. With training camps set to open next month, many fans are worried about the deal not getting done.
However, former Bruins goalie Andrew Raycroft says it is going to be completed and it isn't a concern for him.
"It's gonna get done," Raycroft said. "This year, the Stanley Cup Finals went all the way to the end, then there was three days till the draft, three days till free agency, three days to development camp, and (then) everybody's gone. Everybody has their phones off, everybody is taking some time, this is the three or four weeks right now of the season actually being off.
"They've gone through this a little bit last season, so, the business side of it, they know where each other stands ... and fortunately, for Jeremy, he knows he's very important and wants to be paid as such," Raycroft added.
Although Raycroft believes a deal will be signed eventually, time is running out for the two sides to get something done before training camps open.
Boston did go out and acquire Joonas Korpisalo from the Ottawa Senators in the Linus Ullmark trade. But adding Swayman would be a great advantage.
