Canadiens' Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield swap hockey sticks for golf clubs at the 2024 Presidents Cup in Montreal
Montreal Canadiens players Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield are enjoying their summer before the start of NHL training camps next month. NHL's official account shared pictures of the two on the golf course preparing for the 2024 President's Cup.
Neither will compete at the event in September, given that the 2024 President's Cup is set to take place in Montreal. Still, they partook in a media event, posing for pictures and fielding questions from media members.
This year's tournament will be held from Sept. 24-29 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. Jim Furyk will lead a U.S. team against Mike Weir's international team. The Ryder Cup sees golfers from the U.S. compete against golfers from Europe. Whereas, the Presidents Cup features athletes from the U.S. competing against the rest of the world, excluding Europe.
At the last Presidents Cup in 2022, Team USA picked up its 12th win, moving to 12-1-1 all-time. Below are photos of the two Canadiens players participating in the Presidents Cup media day.
"Making the playoffs is our goal," - Nick Suzuki discusses upcoming Canadiens' season with media members at Presidents Cup
Last year, the Montreal Canadiens finished the season with the worst record in the Atlantic Division, missing out on the playoffs for the third straight year. While the team has several young standouts, the front office also made several free-agency acquisitions to bolster the roster.
The team notably signed defenceman Kaiden Guhle to a six-year extension. It also signed Arber Xhekaj to a two-year extension and winger Juraj Slafkovsky to an eight-year extension.
Given their offseason moves, the Canadiens look to make waves this season. While speaking to media members at the Presidents Cup media day, captain Nick Suzuki said:
"Making the playoffs is our goal. We're all coming in wanting to make the playoffs and go as far as we can and win the Cup. Every year, you're climbing that mountain trying to get to the top.
"We took a great step in the right direction and I think we will continue to do that with our group getting a bit older and more mature."
In addition to its offseason moves, the team drafted Ivan Demidov. Demidov is an exciting young prospect from Russia who notably logged 60 points in 30 games last season with SKA-1946 in the MHL.
