Canucks HC Rick Tocchet calls out Elias Pettersson's play in powerplay goal, comments on Tyler Myers' injury update

Canucks coach Rick Tocchet didn't mince words following Vancouver's 3-2 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night. Tocchet specifically called out star forward Elias Pettersson's play during a crucial powerplay goal conceded by his team.

Nils Hoglander scored in the opening period to put the Canucks ahead 1–0. However the Flyers responded with a powerplay goal in the same period.

When Hoglander was held in the penalty box, Philadelphia caught Pettersson on a three-on-two rush that resulted in Tyson Foester scoring a goal to tie the game at 1-1. Tocchet was quick to highlight Pettersson's involvement in the lapse.

Tocchet expressed his disappointment with Pettersson's positioning during the play, which led to the Flyers smoothly passing the puck around and scoring.

"Pettersson was caught flat flooded. He's got a gap up, and he's got to be the wedge guy," Tocchet said post-game.
"And then we played the rush wrong. So when it's a three on two, I think our D gotta just protect the guts of the ice, let the shot on the outside. It's tic-tac-toe. A couple of detailed mistakes, we'll correct it."

The Canucks regained their lead in the second period on a tipped-in goal by Teddy Blueger. But the Flyers' Cam York tied it up again in the third. The Flyers eventually won 3-2 with a shootout goal by Morgan Frost.

Canucks goalie Kevin Lankinen stopped 29 shots, while Flyers' Samuel Ersson saved 24.

Canucks HC Rick Tocchet's update on Tyler Myers's injury

Tyler Myers was injured in the first period after a collision with Flyers forward Joel Farabee by the boards.

Myers's left leg got tangled up with Farabee while they were fighting for the puck, causing Myers to fall. He was helped off ice, as as he unable to put any weight on the injured leg.

"I don't know. Hopefully we dodge a bullet, but I'm not sure," Tocchet said about the injury.

Myers didn't return to the game. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, but it appeared to be a leg or knee issue.

Vancouver next face the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Tuesday night.
