Capitals' $25,000,000 star shares a light-hearted Alex Ovechkin trait
On Monday, in an interview with TSN, Washington Capitals forward Dylan Strome talked about Alex Ovechkin's love for memes. Strome and Ovechkin are teammates. But off the ice, they are good friends. They exchange memes, particularly Ovechkin during the off-season in summer.
Strome who signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the Capitals said that Ovechkin enjoys sending him memes.
"Mainly through memes. He’s quite the meme enthusiast and sends a lot of them," Strome said. "I know he’s also a big emoji fan, as you might have seen from the McClellan post. It’s not just random memes; we exchange them back and forth. He’s got a great sense of humor, so it’s always fun to hear from him."
Ovechkin, who reached 30 goals, had a tough start to the season, scoring just eight goals in his first 43 games.
Strome also expressed his excitement for the Capitals' off-season moves. He said he feels happy that he is reuniting with former Coyotes teammate Jakob Chychrun. He believes that will boost the team's chances for the new season.
Alex Ovechkin on Evgeny Kuznetsov's future and return to KHL
On Monday, Alex Ovechkin commented on Evgeny Kuznetsov leaving the NHL. Kuznetsov had a brief stint with the Carolina Hurricanes. Before that, he was with the Washington Capitals. He is expected to return to Russia’s KHL.
Ovechkin spoke after the “Match of the Year” in Moscow. He expressed uncertainty about Kuznetsov’s plans and acknowledged the forward’s difficult situation.
“We’ll see, I just can’t say what his plans are,” Ovechkin said (via matchtv.ru). “Every person has their own head on their shoulders. They’ll figure out what’s best for the family and make that decision.”
Kuznetsov was a key player in the Capitals’ 2018 Stanley Cup win. He has had a close relationship with Ovechkin and even supported him through personal and professional struggles.
Despite Kuznetsov not being at the Moscow event, Ovechkin believes his presence would have enhanced the show.
“He’s in a difficult situation now, you know,” Ovechkin said. “We need to figure out where he’ll be playing. If he were here, he wouldn’t spoil the picture, on the contrary, he’d add to the show.”
Reports suggest Kuznetsov will sign a four-year deal with SKA Saint Petersburg. Kuznetsov's agent confirmed his return to the KHL.
