Caps' Jakob Chychrun deems imported cod liver 'lot better than' beef liver

New Washington Capitals defenseman Jakob Chychrun shared his food choice in an Instagram story on Monday. Known for sticking to a healthy diet, Chychrun posted that he prefers cod liver over beef liver. This caught attention because athletes often choose beef liver for its rich nutrients.

Chychrun joined the Capitals on July 1 in a trade with the Ottawa Senators. The team dealt defenseman Nick Jensen and a third-round pick to get Chychrun. The 26-year-old is one of seven players the Capitals brought in to strengthen their roster after a tough playoff run.

In his Instagram story, Jakob Chychrun shared a picture of his meal and wrote:

However, the dessert was what stood out. It was an imported cod liver can from the brand Sanniti. After trying it, Chychrun wrote:

While beef liver is known for its high vitamins and minerals, cod liver offers benefits too. It’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A and D.

Later, Chychrun shared another story about the benefits of steak and sustainable farming. The post explained how raising one cow can produce 200 nutrient-rich steaks. He emphasized that this supports human health and the environment. The post also criticized almond farming for harming bees and wildlife.

It argued that producing almond milk requires practices that hurt the environment.

Jakob Chychrun skates for hopeful Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals are working to stay competitive after barely making the 2024 playoffs. They added several new players, including defenseman Jakob Chychrun. Chychrun, who scored 41 points last season, is excited about joining the team.

“It seems like [Washington] been very aggressive, and it’s great to see. I mean, obviously, they’re a group that wants to win, and I’m just so excited,” Chychrun said per RMNB.

In late August, Chychrun joined his new teammates for informal skates at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. New players like Dylan Strome and others have also started skating in Washington. Players like John Carlson, Matt Roy, Logan Thompson and Pierre-Luc Dubois are already preparing for the season. Former Capitals players like Nick Jensen and Lars Eller were also spotted at the rink.

Jakob Chychrun is in the final year of his six-year contract, earning $4.6 million per season. He looks forward to contributing to the team and helping it reach the playoffs again. The Capitals will start their official training camp in mid-September.
