Captain Brad Marchand doesn't mince words recapping Boston Bruins' dreadful 8-1 thrashing by Winnipeg Jets

Brad Marchand and the Boston Bruins suffered a heavy 8-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday at Canada Life Centre, marking the second time this season they've conceded eight goals in a game. After the game, Marchand said the disappointing performance wasn't unexpected.

Marchand said sloppy practices and weak execution during training had carried over into their games. NHL insider Shawn Hutcheon shared Marchand’s remarks on X, where the captain stressed the need to improve practice habits.

"This (loss) has been coming." Brad Marchand said (1:07 mark of the video below). "Our practices have been sloppy. Our execution has been off there and it bleeds into games. The way you practice is how you play. It starts there. We need to do a better job at being good at practice."

The Jets dominated the game with strong contributions from Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor. Scheifele scored two goals and had an assist, while Connor added a goal and two assists. Gabriel Vilardi and Nikita Chibrikov also scored, each contributing an assist as well.

David Pastrnak scored the Bruins’ only goal during a second-period power play, but Boston could not recover. Brad Marchand also failed to score. Jeremy Swayman faced 35 shots and made 27 saves, while Connor Hellebuyck stopped 23 of 24 shots for Winnipeg.

"They (Winnipeg) were good and we were not good." Marchand said. "We were lost in our coverage and we didn't win enough battles. They made plays and we did not have a good game."

The Bruins, now 15-12-3, need to regroup quickly to avoid further setbacks. Meanwhile, the Jets improved to 21-9-0.

Jets scored five unanswered goals to defeat Brad Marchand and Bruins 8-1

The Jets took control early with Vladislav Namestnikov scoring the first goal off a rebound in the opening period. Namestnikov gave the Jets a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 12:09 of the first period. Scheifele made it 2-0 with a one-timer off a pass from Kyle Connor.

In the second period, Scheifele scored again on the power play to make it 3-0. David Pastrnak got the Bruins on the board with a power-play goal at 9:13, cutting the lead to 3-1. Pastrnak briefly gave Boston hope, but Winnipeg responded with five unanswered goals in the third period.

Connor scored, followed by Gabriel Vilardi to make it 5-1, and Alex Iafallo’s redirection goal on the power play at 7:19 made it 6-1. Next, Mason Appleton scored to make it 7-1, and Nikita Chibrikov added a goal in his debut for the 8-1 final.

Now, the challenge for the Bruins is to take Brad Marchand’s advice and win against the Seattle Kraken.
