Captain Jacob Trouba makes his feelings known after Rangers blow lead for 4th straight loss
The New York Rangers suffered a disappointing 4-3 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night, blowing a 3-2 third-period lead for their fourth straight defeat.
Captain Jacob Trouba made his feelings known after the game, lamenting his team's inability to close out the win.
"We're going through a little bit of adversity as a group," Trouba said in a postgame interview. "Everybody knows it's probably a better effort for us, but there's not really any moral victories at this level. We've got to keep grinding, keep putting the work in and turn this thing around as a group."
(from 1:18 mark onwards)
The Rangers held a 3-2 lead heading into the third period after goals from Brett Berard, Jonny Brodzinski and Adam Edstrom. But the Hurricanes came storming back with two goals from Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jackson Blake to clinch the comeback victory.
On blowing another third-period lead, Trouba said:
"I thought we had some looks to wrap it around, and then I go on the PK and it happens, unfortunately. I think we were in a good spot going into the third, it just got away from us."
Seth Jarvis and Jack Drury also scored for the Hurricanes. Igor Shesterkin made 26 saves in the losing effort for New York while Spencer Martin stopped 19 shots for Carolina.
Jacob Trouba on how to build again after back-to-back losses
Jacob Trouba talked about how the team needs to build themselves after back-to-back losses:
"I think that's the only way out of a hole is to kind of climb your way, I think that's a step in the right direction from where we were, still not good enough and we got to keep working to get to get to the win column."
He also emphasized the need to keep grinding through this tough stretch:
"I think it's just a stretch of hockey that we're going through that we've got to work our way out of. Like I said, we get another opportunity in a couple days. Just keep grinding, keep working, that's the only way to get out of these kinds of situations."
The loss dropped New York's record to 12-8-1 on the season. They will look to bounce back on Thursday when they face the Philadelphia Flyers on the road at Wells Fargo Center.
