CEO Jeff Jackson proposes timeline to end Edmonton Oilers' GM hunt after Ken Holland's exit
The Edmonton Oilers are on the lookout for a new GM following Ken Holland's departure earlier this month. Jeff Jackson, the CEO and interim GM, is leading the search.
He has outlined a timeline to fill the position before the upcoming season kicks off. On "The Bob McCown Podcast," Jeff Jackson provided insight into the timeline for finalizing the search for the next Oilers GM:
"I'm working through that process right now and have spoken with a number of candidates and just sort of making my way through that.
"I hope to have a decision on that front, you know, I don't want to put a time frame on it, but it's probably the next week to 10 days sort of thing, I would think."
Jackson's focused approach indicates a sense of urgency while ensuring a thorough evaluation of candidates before the final decision. From 2019 to 2024, Holland served as the Oilers' GM for five seasons.
During his tenure, he led the team to the playoffs every year. The Edmonton Oilers came agonizingly close to winning the Stanley Cup last month, falling short by just one goal. It would have been a remarkable conclusion for Holland's stint with the team had they secured the championship.
However, they narrowly missed out on getting their hands on the ultimate prize. With Holland's departure, Jackson is actively engaged in the search for a suitable candidate to steer the Oilers in the upcoming season.
Connor McDavid praises Jeff Jackson for the Edmonton Oilers' offseason moves
Connor McDavid has commended Jeff Jackson and the Oilers staff for their offseason work, praising their efforts to keep the team intact.
McDavid highlighted the management team's exceptional work during the brief and fast-paced offseason. Here's what the Edmonton Oilers captain said:
“I thought the whole management staff did a great job. They’ve had a great offseason so far. It’s been short. It’s been hurried, but in the small time they’ve had, they’ve done great things. Keeping as many guys together (as they did) is a good thing."
McDavid also lauded the Oilers CEO, acknowledging the challenges of roster management in the salary cap era:
“In the salary cap era, it’s tough to do that and he’s done a great job of finding a way to do that for the most part, obviously losing a couple of guys which is always unfortunate, but (that’s) unfortunately part of the hockey world we live in."
