Cole Caufield makes his feelings known about viral celly photo after $34,800,000 forward's first Habs goal
Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield made his feelings known about a viral celebration photo after Patrik Laine's debut goal with the team.
Laine made his Habs debut in a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders on Dec. 3. He ended the game with his debut goal, and Caufield immediately ran to him to celebrate.
Being a smaller player, Caufield almost performed a piggyback-style celebration, lifting Laine from behind.
Caufield gave his take on the celebration photo, saying (4:23):
"Yeah, it was really funny. Obviously I didn't realize it at the moment but credit to the photographer for sure for that one. I was just pumped up and (trying to) get to Patty as soon as possible."
Cole Caufield also expressed his happiness for Laine after he scored his first goal as a member of the Canadiens since returning from injury. He said:
"I am happy for anybody when they score but for a guy like him, to go through what he did, and how hard he worked day in and day out. It is tough to stay consistent with that but really proud of him he inspired us all. Really lucky to have him and he’s a joy to be around."
Patrik Laine was traded to the Montreal Canadiens from the Columbus Blue Jackets in August, with the Habs confirming that they did not retain any salary from his four-year, $34.8 million contract.
The 26-year-old Finnish winger faced a setback when he sustained a knee injury during a preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, which sidelined him for two months during his rehabilitation.
Laine has made a strong start with the Canadiens, scoring two goals in three games this season.
Cole Caufield on his exclusion from 4 Nations Face-Off
Cole Caufield also addressed his exclusion from the Team USA roster for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off tournament on Sunday. Caufield emphasized that he will continue to work hard and support the team.
“Honestly, it’s been a couple of days. I am kinda over it.” Caufield added, “Obviously going to keep working doesn’t change much for me. Will still be cheering them too," he said.
"I am not really going to comment on that,” he said (0:46 mark). “They got tough decisions to make too. So at the end of the day, it is what it is. I’m still going to keep playing and do my thing," Caufield added.
Cole Caufield has racked up 25 points through 17 goals and eight assists in 27 games this season.
