Colorado Avalanche HC Jared Bednar makes his feelings known after 5-3 loss to Carolina Hurricanes
Colorado Avalanche coach Jared Bednar reflected on his team's 5-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena on Thursday.
He noted that the team struggled with puck movement and did not handle the Hurricanes' pressure effectively. Bednar said after the game:
"I thought we were sometimes trying to make the most difficult pass ... The only line that seemed like they were able to do that was the MacKinnon line, you know, that I thought they were consistently working the puck up the ice and creating some chance."
One of the concerning issues for the Colorado Avalanche is their struggling powerplay. Against the Hurricanes, the lack of goals on the man advantage was likely a key factor in their defeat.
The Avalanche had three powerplay opportunities, including a two-man advantage for a portion of the game, but they failed to capitalize, finishing 0-3 on the powerplay. In contrast, the Hurricanes were successful, scoring twice while on the man advantage.
Bednar acknowledged his team's powerplay struggles, calling it a recurring issue throughout the season.
"They had three breakaways, you know, like they did some really good things throughout the course of the night, but the other lines just struggled with the pace of tonight's game. I know it's been like a kind of recurring thing all year.
I mean that slow start lasted 45 minutes, so it wasn't really a slow start, it was them outplaying us," he added.
The Avalanche are fourth in the Central Division with a 14-13-0 record and 28 points after 27 games.
