Connor Bedard makes his feelings known about Blackhawks HC Luke Richardson's shock firing
Chicago Blackhawks star forward Connor Bedard said he was disappointed by the firing of coach Luke Richardson. Chicago decided to part ways with the coach on Thursday after an 8-16-2 start to the season.
Richardson had been the Blackhawks' coach since June 2022 and went 57-118-15. Following the firing, Bedard said it was sad to see Richardson go, as the two had a good relationship.
"I had a good relationship with Luke, he's a really good guy. In the end, it's someone losing their job. Obviously, you build relationships with those guys and it's sad seeing anyone go, for sure," Bedard said. [1:17]
Bedard has five goals and 16 assists in 28 games this season.
Blackhawks GM explains decision to fire Luke Richardson
Chicago Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson said that the results didn't match the expectations for the team and it was time for a new voice.
“As we have begun to take steps forward in our rebuilding process, we felt that the results did not match our expectations for a higher level of execution this season and ultimately came to the decision that a change was necessary. We wish Luke and his family all the best moving forward.”
The Blackhawks named Rockford IceHogs coach Anders Sorensen interim head coach. In his first game as interim coach, Sorensen's Blackhawks upset the New York Rangers 2-1.
The Blackhawks are 9-17-2 and second-last in the Central Division. Chicago hasn't made the playoffs since the 2019-20 season.
