Connor McDavid's 'heartbroken' fiancee Lauren Kyle hopeful after Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup loss
Lauren Kyle, Connor McDavid's fiance, shared a heartfelt message after the Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup defeat to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 at Amerant Bank Arena.
The Oilers fell just short of what would have been a comeback for ages as they lost 2-1 to the Florida Panthers in the final game of the Stanley Cup on Monday night. Sam Reinhart's second-period goal brought glory to Florida, securing their first-ever championship in franchise history.
On the other hand, the wait for the Cup for Connor McDavid and Canada continues. McDavid's fiance Lauren Kyle was 'heartbroken' after the loss and shared a heartfelt message on Instagram with Edmontonians.
She conveyed her gratitude for being in Edmonton with the teams and praised their achievements this year, regardless of the outcome. Kyle also emphasized the incredible support from fans who traveled far to stand by the team.
She remains hopeful that the Stanley Cup will soon find its way back to Canada.
"As heartbroken I am I feel so grateful to be in Edmonton with this group. I just need to say how proud I am of everything we accomplished this year, win or loss. Seeing so many fans travel across the continent to support our team was so incredible. We have the BEST fans in the league and no one deserves it more. We will bring it to Canada soon!!!," Lauren Kyle wrote in an IG story.
The Edmonton Oilers did bring home a major trophy despite the loss, though. Connor McDavid was honored with the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs' most valuable player after putting in a generational performance in the post-season.
The Oilers captain not only broke Wayne Gretzky's record for the most assists (32) but also became only the fourth player in NHL history to accumulate the most points in a single playoff run.
McDavid amassed 42 points through eight goals and 34 assists across 25 games.
How long have Connor McDavid and Lauren Kyle been together?
Connor McDavid got engaged to his longtime girlfriend last summer. The Oilers captain and Kyle, who is an interior designer, are reportedly said to have been together since they were 19.
Kyle made the move to Edmonton after completing her studies at Toronto Metropolitan University in Ontario in 2019. Moreover, the couple also shares a cute dog named Lenard.
