"He's a treasure": NHL fans left in awe as Sidney Crosby celebrates $17.4M contract extension in wholesome way
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has himself a brand new $17.4M contract extension that will kick in at the start of the 2025-26 NHL season. It'll keep him a member of the team that drafted him 1st overall in 2005 until he hits 40 years of age.
In the meantime, Crosby is continuing the tradition the Penguins began years ago of personally delivering tickets to Pittsburgh season ticket holders, a gesture that was well-received by the fans that he visited.
Multiple Penguins fans chimed in with their thoughts on Crosby's gesture.
"He's a treasure! There will never be another Sidney Crosby!" wrote one fan.
"I probably would have collapsed and bawled my eyes out if Sid came to my door," expressed another fan.
However, not all of the reception was positive. A handful of fans voiced their view that this event was staged while also pointing out what they thought was an unenthusiastic reaction by the homeowners upon seeing Crosby on their doorstep.
"Thats super cool but they blew it. Should have set it up that a player was coming… but not accounce who and get up close reactions on their faces when its Crosby…. Just sayin," one fan wrote.
"You would think that family would’ve been more excited. As an Avs fan, if Nathan McKinnon showed up at my front door to deliver me tickets I would be beside myself with joy and excitement and be pinching myself!" opined another fan.
Sidney Crosby is rooted deep in Penguins culture
Penguins players personally delivering season tickets has been a tradition that the organization has done for years now. Along with Sidney Crosby, several other players including Evgeni Malkin, Cody Glass, Michael Bunting, Tristan Jarry, Bryan Rust, Erik Karlsson, and Drew O'Connor participated.
Crosby, who has scored 592 goals with 1,004 assists in 1,272 regular season games, explained that he is grateful for the organization with whom he's played his entire NHL career while also referencing his longtime teammates, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang.
Crosby's new contract is worth a total of $17.4 million, which breaks down to $8.7 million a season, once again matching his iconic jersey No. 87 that will hang from the rafters whenever his playing career comes to an end.
