Detroit Red Wings HC Derek Lalonde makes his feelings known about offside call waving off Marco Kasper's goal
Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde expressed frustration over an offside call that waved off what would have been a go-ahead goal by Marco Kasper in the Red Wings' 3-2 OT loss to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday.
In the second period, Kasper had redirected a shot during a power play, putting Detroit ahead 2-1. However, on review, it was determined that Red Wings defenseman Erik Gustafsson was ahead of the puck on the zone entry, negating the goal due to offside.
"I don’t know how he (Gustafsson) got himself offside. There’s a perfect storm. He literally just cut the edges to go outside at the exact time, and that was an unfortunate mishap there," Lalonde said after the game.
Despite the offside call, Lalonde was pleased with his team's effort against a strong Bruins squad.
"It's frustrating, because we are doing a lot of good things obviously, we keep pointing again that's points six to the last eight, it's a pretty good pace. But I think there's stretches in our game that we play really well and you end up wanting more," he said.
Lalonde said that getting a road point in Boston is always a positive. However, he felt that had they sustained their quality of play a bit longer, they might have secured the full two points.
Lucas Raymond scored both the Detroit Red Wings' goals in the loss. Justin Brazeau, Pavel Zacha and Nikita Zadorov netted for the Bruins. Red Wings goalie Ville Husso made 32 saves, while Boston's Joonas Korpisalo stopped 25 shots.
Detroit Red Wings' Lucas Raymond reflects on OT loss to Boston
Lucas Raymond frustrated with the current stretch, as the Red Wings are coming off a 5-4 OT loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Raymond pointed out that the team is playing well but needs to work on finishing games.
“For sure. We lost two in a row in overtime. Even the Devils one (5-4 win on Friday), we felt really good coming into the third (period). We had a great shot at winning it. We’re right there," Raymond said.
Obviously, get one point tonight. We would have wanted two, but we’re right there. It’s just small details,if we can fix those, I think we’ll be in a great spot,” he added.
The Detroit Red Wings next face the Ottawa Senators on the road on Thursday.
