"EA is scared of me": Cover athlete Jack Hughes jokes about "snapping" at NHL 25 makers owing to low in-game OVR
The Hughes brothers Quinn Hughes, Jack Hughes, and Luke Hughes will be on the cover of NHL 25, marking a first for the three siblings. TSN analyst Jesse Pollock interviewed the brothers about this and their in-game ratings.
Quinn Hughes shared how they found out about being on the cover.
“I think it was after the All-Star Game in February or early March,” Quinn said. “We were really looking forward to it. There hasn’t been a cover with three brothers, so it’s really exciting.” [0:22]
Pollock then asked how they felt about their ratings this year. Quinn said he’s happy with his rating, and Luke, after his rookie year, feels the same. Jack, who joked about his past complaints, seems pleased with his rating this time.
When asked about his ratings, Jack Hughes couldn’t resist making a joke.
“I think EA is scared of me,” Jack joked. “Three years ago, I snapped on them. I said my rating was terrible. So this year, two extra points probably.” [3:00]
Jack Hughes' comment shows how much players care about their in-game ratings. The Hughes brothers are set to shine, both on the cover and in the game. NHL 25 will be available on October 4 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Hughes brothers reflect on historic NHL 25 cover and Jack Hughes calls it 'really special'
The Hughes brothers, fans of the NHL video game series, are excited about this achievement.
“It’s really special,” Jack Hughes said (via The Athletic). “The fact that the three of us, three brothers, (are) on the cover. Really cool for us to do that. I’m looking forward to seeing the cover come out. We’ll definitely have a big printed version framed and hung up in our house.”
Quinn, who recently earned the Norris Trophy, was glad to share the news with his brothers.
“I think it was cooler that it was going to be the three of us,” Quinn said. “Because every year there’s a new guy on the cover. But there’s never been three guys on the cover together. And definitely not brothers.”
Luke described it as a dream come true and said:
“It’s something you always dream of but you never really realize that it could actually happen. For the three of us to be on together, it’s so special. It’s a great honor for all of us."
NHL 25 debuts new "Ice-Q" technology, enhancing player control, AI, and realism. Senior producer Chris Haluke mentioned that the Hughes brothers' hockey intelligence complements these features. The game will also include a revamped franchise mode.
