Elliotte Friedman pinpoints unusual broadcasting change that may aid Canada's roster at 4 Nations Face-Off

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman has highlighted a notable broadcasting change that could benefit Canada's roster during the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off tournament.

During a segment of Wednesday Night Hockey, Friedman pointed out that, unlike regular NHL games, the commercial breaks for the tournament will be extended by a minute, increasing from the standard 90 seconds.

"There's going to be a change for this tournament from the regular NHL games, and that is that the commercial breaks are going to be a minute longer in NHL games. The commercial breaks are 90 seconds for this that's going to be about two and a half."

Friedman also noted that the change would allow Canada's top players to have more time ice, which may give them an advantage, given the depth of talent on the team's roster.

"That's the pay for your suits. That's to pay for the suits, but also what that's going to do is for a team like Canada, which I think has the most top, top end talent, that's going to allow their best players to play more. And I think if there's one thing that I think really favors the Canadians, it's that," Friedman added.

The 4-Nations Face-Off is an international tournament featuring Canada, the United States, Sweden and Finland. It will take place from Feb. 12 to 20 and will replace the 2025 NHL All-Star Game.
