Evander Kane injury update: Oilers provide estimated timeline for forward's return after abdominal surgery

ARJUN B

The Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane underwent major abdominal surgery on Friday. Kane is expected to miss 5-6 months recovering from the procedure, the Oilers announced Monday .

The 33-year-old Kane had been dealing with injuries since the 2023-24 season. He played through injuries to both abductors, two hernias, and two tears in his abdominal muscles.

Kane reportedly attempted more conservative treatment like rest and rehabilitation after the season ended to see if surgery could be avoided. However, the issues did not improve enough, leading to the decision for surgery.

"We took some time off to see if anything settled down, if anything could be rehabbed. There were some people that believed that we could possibly get better through rehab, but that ended up not being the case," Kane explained last week (as per NHL.com).

The veteran winger recorded 44 points in 43 regular games last season for the Oilers. Kane added another 8 points in 20 playoff contests.

"Why did he wait so long? Lol" a user commented.

Fans seem supportive of Evander Kane through this process and are optimistic he will come back at the end of this NHL season after rehabbing from surgery.
