Evander Kane's fiancee Mara Teigen pens heartfelt message after Kane's successful surgery
Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane had a successful surgery on Friday. It was the first of a series of surgeries to repair two hernias, two abdominal tears and both abductors the player will be undergoing ahead of the new season.
After the surgery, Kane’s partner, Mara Teigen, took to her Instagram story to pen an emotional message for him. She posted a picture of their family of five and wrote:
“Our favorite person had major surgery yesterday. We won’t be playing with our kids like this for a bit, but don’t worry you will heal and our kids will be climbing all over you again soon.
“You risk your life everyday when you go to work, and without a doubt always show us how strong and fearless you are. You always persevere and power through, and you give everything you’ve got for your team.”
Teigen also expressed relief that the surgery would alleviate the pain Evander Kane had been enduring.
“We all appreciate you so much, and know that something like this will not hold you back from doing what you do best," she wrote. "I’m so sorry this year had to start out this way, but I’m so glad you won’t have to suffer with the pain anymore, and will come back better than ever.”
She thanked the doctors and nurses for the successful surgery and reassured fans that their kids would soon be climbing all over him again once he healed.
Evander Kane will have surgeries to repair abductors, hernias and abdominal tears
The Edmonton Oilers forward will miss the start of the 2024-25 NHL season. While speaking to the Players Tribune, Evander Kane opened up on the medical challenges at hand.
“I’m having a lot done, both abductors on each hip, two torn lower abominable muscles done and two hernias,” Kane said. “I felt something was wrong in late October (last season)… and just kind of slowly got worse over time.
“Everybody agreed we wanted to see how things looked after we took some time off to see if anything settled down (and) if anything could be rehabbed … that ended up not being the case. This is a big undertaking and an injury and for me, something I want to get fixed once and get fixed correctly.”
Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman confirmed that Kane will be out for an indefinite time, with no clear timeline for his return. Although Evander Kane is optimistic about recovering, it's uncertain when he will play in the upcoming season.
The Oilers have added new wingers like Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner, which could make it tough for Kane to find his spot when he’s back. The team is also considering placing him on LTIR to manage cap space, but it depends on his health.
