Ex-NHLer addresses Steve Dangle's bold claim of NY Rangers GM Chris Drury being in players' crosshairs

Former NHLer Colby Cohen recently addressed hockey analyst and podcaster Steve Dangle's bold claim about the NY Rangers players' relationship with GM Chris Drury.

On the "SDPN" podcast, Dangle claimed that there was a players-only meeting that took place among the Rangers players. He claimed the topic of discussion was not head coach Peter Laviolette but GM Drury.

Dangle said:

"As far as I can tell, the relationship with Laviolette is fine between him and the players. There's a lot of chatter about him potentially getting fired. I don't get the impression that they think he is either the problem or their main problem," he continued.

Dangle also pointed out that it seems all the coaches have "lost the room," indicating a deeper disconnect between the players and the management.

"Their main gripe was Chris Drury, it's so rare that you hear a team collectively having a problem with management. It's usually a little more in the room," Dangle added.

Colby Cohen responded to Steve Dangle's claims about the Rangers, claiming the report is completely false and has no truth to it:

"I’ve spoken to a number of current NHL players who have told me this report is 100 percent false. Not an ounce of truth to it," Colby posted pn X.

According to ESPN's Emily Kaplan, following the team's loss to St. Louis Blues, there was a closed-door meeting where frustrations among players regarding Drury's management style were evident.

While some players continue to support him, there are significant concerns about his decisions over the past few months. Kaplan noted that owner James Dolan still backs Drury, despite the unrest within the team.

"James Dolan, still support Chris Drury right now. In fact, I was told that James Dolan was aware of the memo Chris Drury sent to the other GMs letting him know about the trade candidates that ultimately began this team spiral," Kaplan said.
"So think the coaching staff said a little bit of a loss right now. How can they contain an unfocused room? But in the meantime, their GM Chris Drury is going to continue making those calls on the trade candidates, same guys we've been talking about," she added.

The chatter around the New York Rangers comes amid the club's recent run of results. The Blueshirts have struggled recently, managing only three wins in their last 14 games, which marks a challenging period for the four-time Stanley Cup winners.

Biz floats idea of former NY Rangers enforcer as next GM

On Tuesday's "Spittin Chiclets" podcast episode, former NHLer and hockey analyst Paul Bissonnette suggested the possibility of ex-Rangers enforcer Sean Avery becoming the next GM of the club after reports of Blueshirts players' fallout with Chris Drury.

Biz said:

I'm also hearing rumblings that Sean Avery is going over to NYC to meet with James Dolan to talk about the state of the New York Rangers."
"There is a crazy element to James Dolan that my content dream might get rid of Drury and hire Sean Avery as the next general manager of the New York Rangers."

The NY Rangers, who are sixth in the Metro Division with 31 points, face the Dallas Stars away on Friday.
