Flames' $49M star Nazem Kadri answers question regarding his future in Calgary

Nazem Kadri asked reporters to hold off speculations about his future with the Calgary Flames. During the first day of training camp, Kadri addressed questions about his commitment to the team in its rebuilding phase.

The 33-year-old forward, who signed a seven-year, $49 million contract in 2022, said it’s too early to discuss such matters.

“I feel like it’s super early to be asking these kinds of questions, so I’m gonna ask you guys to pump the brakes a little bit,” Kadri said (via TSN). “Let us go play, and we’re going to try to rally around each other and surprise some people.”

Kadri joined the Flames after winning the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche. His signing followed the trade of Matthew Tkachuk. The Flames wanted to remain competitive. However, they missed the playoffs in the last two seasons. Now, the team is focusing on rebuilding under general manager Craig Conroy.

Kadri remains committed to the Flames despite these changes. He expressed his appreciation for the city and organization.

“I love the city,” Kadri added. “I love the organization.”

Teammates like captain Mikael Backlund, defenseman MacKenzie Weegar, and forward Blake Coleman share this view. They also want to stay and support the younger players.
