Florida Panthers' Paul Maurice has hilarious response regarding Jacob Trouba's $5,000 fine for elbowing Evan Rodrigues

New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba was fined $5,000 by the NHL for elbowing Florida Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues in the head during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final. Rangers head coach Paul Maurice had a hilarious response to Jacob Trouba's fine.

"Take the hat, pass it around. Poor lad. Poor Jake. He won't be able to eat," Maurice joked about the relatively small fine.

The incident took place towards the end of the second period on Sunday. Initially, Trouba received a 5-minute penalty, but after a video review, the officials reduced it to a 2-minute minor penalty.

Rodrigues stayed down on the ice for quite some time before making his way to the locker room. He managed to come for the third period and complete the game.

Jacob Trouba has faced suspension twice and received fines on other two occasions throughout his NHL career.

Fans react to Paul Maurice's comment on Jacob Trouba's $5,000 fine

Fans on social media had plenty to say in response to Maurice's sarcastic comments about Jacob Trouba's elbowing fine. Many pointed out the double standard compared to fines and suspensions given out for other incidents.

"You can taste bitterness coming out of his mouth as he talks," one fan responded to Maurice's post on X.

Another fan confused about the proceedings, asked:

"Got fined for a hit that was reviewed and determined to only be a 2 minute minor? I'm relatively new to hockey but is that normal?"
"They want headshots out of the game but then impose tiny fines to repeat offenders. What a joke," another fan said.

One fan hilariously responded by saying:

"$5k does buy a lot of chicken wings."

Some fans were clearly outraged that Jacob Trouba was a repeat offender but still kept getting away without any major consequences.

"Trouba must have quite the arsenal of dirty pics of big George. That’s some track record he’s built up of evading a sussy," one fan said.
"Poor lomberg. Gotta pay 5k for head hunting wennberg. Poor tkachuk gotta pay 5k for crosschecking laff in the mouth after a goal…. Oh wait. Those were clean," another fan said.
"I have zero dog in this fight, a bruins fan, but that is absolute bullsh*t! The nhl lets him ,body bag people, twice a month.why?" one fan said.

The Rangers went on to win Game 3 with a 5-4 score in overtime, giving them a 2-1 series advantage over the Panthers.

Game 4 of the series will take place at Amerant Bank Arena in Florida on Tuesday.
