Former Canucks goalie dismisses Oilers fans' claims of "figuring out" Sergei Bobrovsky following 8-1 thrashing
Former NHL goalie Eddie Lack has dismissed claims from Oilers fans that their team has figured out Sergei Bobrovsky following Edmonton's 8-1 win over the Florida Panthers. The Oilers won because of Connor McDavid's four-point game and goalie Stuart Skinner's 32 saves. The win stopped a possible sweep in the Stanley Cup Final.
Lack wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
"It’s funny to hear 'Oilers have figured Bob out'. Like they didn’t have 15 years of game tape to do this before the series. Bob had a bad game. He’s too good not to bounce back. Skinner needs to steal next one if this is gonna keep going."
Bobrovsky had a tough time in Game 4, letting in five goals on 16 shots before being taken out. This performance was in sharp contrast to his earlier games in the series where he had been solid. The series now moves to Florida for Game 5, and Bobrovsky is likely to come back strong there.
Edmonton Oilers' comeback in Stanley Cup Final
The Edmonton finally showed their Stanley Cup Final potential with an 8-1 win over the Florida Panthers in Game 4.
However, the Oilers know they still have a lot of work to do. They need to win three more games in a row to win the Stanley Cup. Edmonton forward Zach Hyman says they're just focused on winning the next game.
“I’m sure outside, the belief starts to grow a little bit, but we’re just focused on one game,” Hyman said (via NHL.com).“And we bought ourselves another couple days here.”
This comeback is similar to how the Oilers started the season, overcoming a slow start to make the playoffs.
Edmonton forward Connor Brown said about the team:
“I feel we’re most comfortable when our backs are against the wall. That’s kind of what we showed at the beginning of the year when we were dead last, our backs against the wall and we came out and had some historic runs...."
Edmonton forward Dylan Holloway said they can't get too excited and must focus on the next game.
“I think the biggest thing for us is not to get too high. So, the biggest thing for us is just to forget that and still use it, knowing that we can do it, but just move forward.”
Despite the win, Edmonton knows it won't be easy. The Oilers haven't had a home-ice advantage since the first round of the playoffs and will need to win on the road to take the cup.
