"Happy birthday husband": Connor McDavid's wife Lauren pens loving message on Oilers forward's 28th birthday

Connor McDavid's wife Lauren Kyle shared a heartfelt message on social media to celebrate her husband's birthday.

McDavid turned 28 on Monday, and for just the second time in his career, he played a home game on his special day as the Edmonton Oilers hosted the LA Kings at Rogers Place.

Kyle shared a heartfelt message on Instagram while enjoying a romantic dance with her husband to Luke Combs' "Fast Lane," surrounded by friends and teammates.

"Happy birthday husband @mcdavid97 love you so much!!" she captioned the post.

Interestingly, the Oilers captain joined an elite list of legends such as Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Steve Yzerman as the third player in NHL history to accumulate the most career points (1,040) by their 28th birthday.

Connor McDavid scored on his birthday after giving the Oilers a 1-0 lead during the second period of Thursday's game against the Kings.

Connor McDavid reflected on his jersey retirement by Otters

Erie Otters fans supported McDavid by sporting jerseys with No. 97 on their backs at Erie Insurance Arena last week. Their presence contributed to a sold-out crowd on Friday, where the Oilers captain and Otters legend had his jersey number retired by the Ontario Hockey League.

McDavid played for the Otters from 2012 to 2015. Reflecting on the ceremony, he expressed that returning to the rink and dressing room brought back fond memories of his stint with the club.

"It's a trip down memory lane," McDavid said before the ceremony. "Being back in this rink and in the [dressing] room has been fun. I was thinking about all those amazing players who were here."

He further expressed gratitude towards the Otters organization, describing them as a beautiful family that has remained an important part of his life.

"Being 15 years old, away from your family, your friends and everything in between, can be very scary thing," McDavid added. "But you guys were a beautiful family and you continue to be a part of my life. I thank you truly.

McDavid has been with the Edmonton Oilers since 2015, the year they drafted him with the No. 1 overall pick. He has been the league's top scorer five times and has won every major individual award, including the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, despite his team losing in the finals.

The only trophy missing from Connor McDavid's collection remains the coveted Stanley Cup, which will be his only goal this year.
