HC Jim Montgomery praises Bruins captain Brad Marchand's "contagious" second-half effort

Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery had high praise for team captain Brad Marchand following the Bruins' thrilling 4-3 overtime victory against the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.

Marchand scored the game-winning goal with just 20 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Bruins to the gritty win after blowing a 3-1 lead in the second period.

"Nice to see the captain get rewarded," Montgomery said. "You know, hit a couple of posts, had a couple of posts. Had a couple of real good opportunities. I know he had the penalty in the third, but for him to win it, that's pretty good message to the rest of the crew."
"I love the way that man (Brad Marchand) perseveres and his second and third effort is contagious," he added.

Montgomery also applauded the Bruins' effort in overtime, saying the team stayed aggressive to win the game.

"Well, we were talking about, we want ... people to hit the gas and play on their toes... I thought that our players in the overtime and, you know, down the stretch there, we're trying to make plays and trying to win the game," Montgomery said.

Pavel Zacha, Cole Koepke and Hampus Lindholm also scored for Boston in the win. For the Flames, Tyson Barrie, Nazem Kadri and Yegor Sharangovich found the net.

Bruins' Joonas Korpisalo stopped 34 shots, while Dustin Wolf made 34 saves in the loss.

Brad Marchand shares thoughts after Bruins' OT win over Flames

Following the Bruins' thrilling 4-3 overtime victory against the Calgary Flames, Brad Marchand said he felt the Bruins played well in the first 40 minutes. However, after he took a penalty to start the third period, he said the team's level of play went downhill.

"We end up getting the two points which at end of days is big for our group to continue to push through adversity and get the win... We gotta dial in the foundation of our game," he said.
"When we do that, we're gonna be a tough team to play. I think we showed that tonight."

The Bruins will take on the Ottawa Senators at home on Saturday.
