HC Kris Knoblauch blames Edmonton Oilers' 'neglected defensive responsibilities' in 6-2 loss to Seattle Kraken
The Edmonton Oilers wrapped up their road trip to the Climate Pedge Arena with a disappointing 6-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday. Coach Kris Knoblauch shared his thoughts on the team's performance, noting that they often neglected their defensive responsibilities, which led to the defeat.
Knoblauch pointed out that while the Oilers had some strong moments, especially in the second period, where they seemed to control the game, mistakes allowed the Kraken to score.
"I thought we carried most of the momentum in the second period but made mistakes that ended up in our net. That often happens when you have the puck as much as we did in the second period—you tend to neglect your defensive responsibilities, and they capitalized on that.
"In the third period, I don't know, I think there was a little frustration. But overall, it was a good learning experience for us as we head into the regular season."
When asked about the impact of conceding two quick goals after tying the game in the second period, Knoblauch acknowledged that it was a crucial moment. He emphasized the need for the team to be more assertive defensively, adding that such lapses cannot happen in the regular season.
"Both goals came off the rush, and our responsibilities were a little too passive. It's the kind of stuff we can't allow to happen in the regular season," he added.
