HC Rick Tocchet brings up Elias Pettersson's missed one-timer attempt in honest review of Vancouver Canucks power play
Vancouver Canucks coach Rick Tocchet brought up Elias Pettersson's missed one-timer attempt during a review of the team's power play in the 3-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night. The loss dropped the Canucks to 16-10-6 on the season.
In the third period, Vegas received a penalty for high sticking against Pettersson, giving Vancouver a power play opportunity. Tocchet acknowledged that they were hoping for someone to get the man advantage going, with Quinn Hughes being blanketed.
“Yeah, we were hoping for somebody to get something going. I think they were taking Quinn away a lot so he's trying to dish it to some other guys. Petey had that one-timer (which) missed the net, but, I don't think we had much after that,” Tocchet said.
The game was tied at 1-1 after two periods before Vegas erupted with two goals in the third to secure victory.
"We played well. We didn’t give up much. They didn’t give us much,” Tocchet said. “We had a good start. Really liked our first period. They’re a good team. They’re going to press. ... We just couldn’t get that equalizer.”
Teddy Blueger scored for the Vancouver Canucks, while Vegas received goals from Brett Howden, William Karlsson and Alex Pietrangelo. Goaltender Adin Hill stopped 19 shots for Vegas, while Kevin Lankinen made 18 saves for Vancouver.
Recap: Vancouver Canucks' 3-1 loss to Vegas Golden Knights
Teddy Blueger opened the scoring for the Canucks in the first period with a wraparound goal. The Golden Knights responded with three straight goals, with Alex Pietrangelo scoring a slap shot from the point in the second period to equalize.
“Not a big difference between winning and losing,”Blueger said. “Not a lot of changes through two periods. It hurts to give up that late one in the second. Just fine margins, it felt a little bit like that.Kind of disappointing to come out of it on the losing end."
William Karlsson gave Vegas the lead in the third period after scoring on a rebound of his own shot. Brett Howden scored the empty netter late in the third to secure the 3-1 win.
"I mean same as every game, try to take each game as it comes, good or bad, refocus. ... Consistency has been an issue for us, so that's something we got to work as a group," Blueger added.
The Vancouver Canucks next face the Senators on Saturday at Rogers Arena.
