HC Rick Tocchet makes his feelings known as $92,800,000 Vancouver Canucks forward breaks into Top 10 franchise record

Head coach Rick Tocchet shared his thoughts after forward Elias Pettersson moved into the top 10 for multi-point games in Vancouver Canucks history. Pettersson earned two assists in a 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild.

“I think it's like the whole team. We're just working, having a game plan, working hard, staying in the moment. And he's [Pettersson] getting some points for us. That's good,” Tocchet said about the team's overall effort.

Pettersson was honored to reach the milestone but wished for a win on the night to cap it all off.

“That’s pretty cool. I’m very honored about that, but it would have tasted better with a win today,” Pettersson said.

Pettersson is signed to an eight-year, $92,800,000 deal with the Canucks. His contract will last until the end of the 2031-32 season. This season, he has 21 points through seven goals and 14 assists.

Elias Pettersson shines, but Kirill Kaprizov's late goal seals Minnesota Wild's win over Vancouver Canucks

Pettersson recorded two assists on Tuesday night, but the Canucks fell 3-2 in overtime after Kirill Kaprizov scored with 24 seconds remaining. It marked his fourth straight game with a point. His game-winning goal came on a 2-on-1 pass from Marco Rossi.

The contest was tightly contested, with both teams creating plenty of chances. Wild coach John Hynes praised his team's toughness in securing the win.

“...It was physical, it was hard, we came back twice,” Hynes said via NHL.com.

Minnesota extended its win streak to four games. The Wild are 6-1-1 in their last eight games.

The Vancouver Canucks’ two-game win streak ended, though Rick Tocchet was still positive about the team's performance.

“Great game. Guys played really hard tonight. Helluva road trip. We could have easily won the game, so guys should feel good about themselves,” Tocchet said.

Pettersson said mistakes in the defensive zone led to the loss:

“I really liked the battle,” Pettersson said. “A few minutes in the second period I think the put a lot of pressure on us. Other than that, we liked our effort. I think we did enough to win, but [there were] a few mistakes by our line and me in the D-zone that we gave up the lead.”

The Vancouver Canucks – with a record of 13 wins, seven losses, four overtime losses with a 3-5-3 record at home – face the Columbus Blue Jackets next on Friday. The Blue Jackets have a record of 11 wins, 10 losses and three overtime losses with a 3-7-2 record on the road. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:00 p.m. PST at Rogers Arena.
