HC Travis Green makes his thoughts extremely clear on whether Linus Ullmark's early exit played a major role in Senators' loss to Oilers
Coach Travis Green said that Linus Ullmark’s early exit didn’t play a major role in the Senators' 3-1 loss to the Oilers.
Even with the defeat, the Senators are in a good spot, sitting in the second wild-card position in the Eastern Conference. They have been playing well, especially with Ullmark’s strong performances. In his last nine games, Ullmark has gone 8-0-1, with a 1.48 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage. His injury could affect the team, but Green hopes that it’s not serious.
After Ullmark left with a back injury before the second period, Green noted that the Senators didn’t give up many shots afterward (2:09).
"I don't think it affected our group. We didn't give up a lot the rest of the way," Green said.
He pointed out that Edmonton’s defense was also strong, but Ottawa had a good game.
"I don't know what the final tally was, but I don't know if we gave up more than 13 shots, five on five, 12 shots. So we had a good check in game. But obviously Edmonton did too," Green continued.
Green also said thta the players understand what they need to do to win. He added that the team is focused but knows the fine line between winning and losing.
"We've got a committed group right now. .... it's a fine line between winning and losing," Green added.
The Senators will monitor Ullmark's recovery closely and hope that he returns soon to boost their playoff chances.
Thomas Chabot frustrated after Senators' loss to Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers snapped the Ottawa Senators' six-game winning streak. Zach Hyman scored his seventh goal in six games, giving the Oilers a 2-1 lead.
Viktor Arvidsson and Connor McDavid also got on the scoreboard. Hyman’s goal came on the power play, while Adam Henrique added another in the third period. Ottawa's Nick Cousins tied the game early in the second, but the Senators couldn't keep up.
Ottawa defenseman Thomas Chabot expressed frustration after the loss to Edmonton, especially after a strong road trip. The Senators had a 3-1-0 record on their four-game Pacific Division trip, but Chabot felt that they could have performed better against Edmonton.
“It’s frustrating, especially the way we’ve been playing,” Chabot said (via NHL.com). “We expected better out of ourselves tonight, but a hard back-to-back facing this team."
The Ottawa have a record of 18 wins, 13 losses and two overtime losses, with a 8-7-1 record on the road. They play the Winnipeg Jets, who have a record of 24 wins, 10 losses and one overtime loss, going 12-3-1 record at home. The game is scheduled for Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. EST.
