"He's going to have a monster year": Paul Bissonnette predicts Mitch Marner lifting Art Ross & Selke Trophy this upcoming season
In a recent episode of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, former NHL player turned analyst Paul Bissonnette made a bold prediction. He said Mitch Marner could win both the Art Ross and Selke Trophies this season.
"I think he’s going to have a monster year. I think he’s going to win a Selke Trophy," Bissonnette said.
Bissonnette praised Marner’s dedication to training, especially his work with Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon. He mentioned Marner's high-altitude training and preparation at his camp in Muskoka.
“I actually think there’s a possibility that Mitch Marner could lead the league in scoring next season," Bissonnette added.
The Toronto Maple Leafs faced criticism after losing to the Boston Bruins in the playoffs last season. This loss led to rumors of possible trades. Marner, who is in the final year of his contract, was often mentioned as a trade candidate.
However, no significant moves were made in the offseason. Recently, discussions have turned toward Marner possibly signing a contract extension with the team.
Mitch Marner has been an important part of the Maple Leafs since his NHL debut in 2016. He performs well in the regular season, but his playoff numbers have not met expectations.
He has been a Selke Trophy finalist and scored 50 points in 57 playoff games, which has led to some criticism. Many fans expect more from a player of his status in important games. Still, the general feeling is that the Leafs would prefer to keep Marner rather than search for someone similar.
Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving backs Mitch Marner amid criticism
On Tuesday's episode of the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving talked about the upcoming season and Mitch Marner. After Marner faced criticism for his playoff performance, Treliving backed him up. He said the criticism was unfair and that high expectations come with being a top player.
Treliving pointed out that the team's success depends on everyone improving, including goaltending and defense. He praised Marner's strong stats and commitment. Treliving noted that Marner worked hard this summer and returned with great energy.
"I know he was really dug in this summer — really dug in. He has that jump. He has that swagger. I am expecting a big year from Mitch," Treliving said.
Treliving believes Marner will have a strong season and is an important player for the Maple Leafs. His support for Marner shows the team's confidence as they prepare for the year ahead.
