Heinz takes shot at Connor McDavid's distaste for ketchup with new campaign featuring 97 varieties
Heinz Ketchup is using Connor McDavid's fear as a clever marketing ploy. McDavid revealed a strange phobia of ketchup, and the prominent sauce brand utilized that in its new ad campaign. They posted to Instagram to promote that they have 97 different varieties, asking the star hockey player how he feels now.
This comes after McDavid was asked by former hockey player P.K. Subban why he was afraid of ketchup. Via Sports Illustrated on Oct. 16, McDavid said:
"The ketchup thing's a funny thing. My brother and I both just grew up that way. It's more of a phobia. I wish I could tell you more. I don't know why it is that why."
Subban joked about how the rest of the NHL would surely trade a strange fear of a condiment for the skill and talent McDavid has. The Edmonton Oilers star is heralded as a generational player. He won the Conn Smythe Award in 2023-24 despite losing the Stanley Cup Finals.
Connor McDavid scores two in frustrating loss
The Edmonton Oilers have not gotten off to the start they envisioned. Their loss this week to the Carolina Hurricanes dropped them to a 2-4-1 record.
It has not really been the fault of Connor McDavid, though. He provided all the scoring in the most recent game, pushing his team to a 2-0 lead before the Hurricanes stormed back.
With less than 10 seconds remaining in overtime, Sebastian Aho scored the Hurricanes' third consecutive unanswered goal, bringing the contest to a close and giving the Oilers another disappointing defeat. McDavid has now recorded a point in six straight matches to start the year, though.
The Hurricanes utilized two third-period goals to tie the score after being held out of the net in the first two. McDavid and the Oilers' offense was held out of the net for the rest of the way, paving a path for the Hurricanes to grab a much-needed victory.
