Henrik Lundqvist delves into Taylor Swift's Eras Tour experience, getting busted at Harry Styles concert with Jimmy Fallon, on The Tonight Show
New York Rangers legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Henrik Lundqvist joined Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show" to discuss a variety of topics, including Taylor Swift's concerts and his experiences on MSG's jumbotron.
The segment kicked off with Fallon and Black Thought, the lead singer of The Roots, playfully rapping about how to pronounce Lundqvist's name, setting a lighthearted tone for the conversation.
During the show, Henrik Lundqvist shared the pressure of appearing on the MSG jumbotron. He admitted that while the initial moments are comfortable, the anticipation often stretches on a bit too long. He said (1:40 onwards):
"The first one, two seconds you're comfortable, but it always feels like it's going on for one or two seconds too long. Then what do I do now? Like I already waved, I continued to wave. So that's— I always tell them, keep it short."
Lundqvist and host Jimmy Fallon also reminisced about a time they were both caught dancing at a Harry Styles concert, which they humorously referred to as "dad dancing." The Hall of Famer acknowledged his reputation as not being the best dancer but emphasized that he still had a fantastic time at the event.
The discussion moved on to the excitement surrounding Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, with Jimmy Fallon showing a picture of Lundqvist at the concert. The former Rangers goalie shared that he took his kids to see Swift perform in Milan, noting that the experience was incredible:
"Yeah, I took my kids. So I spent my summers in Sweden, so it was a quick flight down to Milan. So we saw her down in Milan this summer, and it was amazing show.
"I mean, we were there for three hours plus the opening acts, and we were probably there for five hours, right? But it was never boring.
Henrik Lundqvist humorously mentioned that he didn't do much dancing during the concert, highlighting the fun yet laid-back nature of his experience.
Henrik Lundqvist shares his thoughts on transition from being a player to TV analyst
Henrik Lundqvist, now an analyst and commentator for NHL on TNT, discussed the challenges of transitioning from a star player to a television analyst.
He reflected on the difficulty of making this leap, admitting that it was a tough job, noting how he struggled to find the right balance between sharing insights and allowing the game to unfold naturally.
"And the more you talk— exactly. Sometimes you got to let the game speak, right? You don't want to overshadow the game. And in sports, sometimes you feel like you have something smart to say, but sometimes less is more."
Lundqvist was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023 after an impressive 15-year NHL career, where he posted a 459-310-96 record and won the coveted Vezina Trophy in 2012.
