"Hope that never stops" - Johnny Gaudreau’s wife Meredith shares emotional thank you over seeing her 'favorite face'
Meredith Gaudreau, wife of late hockey player Johnny Gaudreau, shared a heartfelt post on Instagram today.
Meredith’s message appeared alongside a video of Johnny from an NHL Network broadcast discussing his charity work. A fan shared the video on X. In her reaction, Meredith wrote:
“Can’t describe how thankful I am to see his face every time I open this app. Hope that never stops. My favorite face.”
Johnny and his brother, Matthew, both died in a bicycle accident on August 29 in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. They were reportedly in their hometown to attend their sister’s wedding as groomsmen.
Tragically, a driver, suspected of being under the influence, hit both brothers while attempting to pass another car. The driver, Sean M. Higgins, has been charged with two counts of death by auto.
Johnny’s passing has affected many, including Meredith and their two young children – Noa, who is 2, and 9-month-old Johnny. Meredith is also expecting fans to continue to share memories of Johnny online, offering comfort to his family during this difficult time.

The Calgary Flames paid tribute to Johnny at their home opener. Fans watched a video of his career highlights and chanted “Johnny! Johnny! Johnny!” in support.
Fans also created a memorial at the Saddledome, where many attended a candlelight vigil. Flames goalie Dustin Wolf added a tribute on his mask with small images of Johnny’s favorite snacks, Gatorade and Skittles.
