"I always got juice": Matt Rempe talks about mother's presence during his first NHL playoff game

The New York Devils Rangers beat the Washington Capitals 4-1 in their opening game of the Eastern Conference Stanley Cup playoffs, where Matt Rempe scored the first postseason goal of his career.

His mother and family were in attendance during the game. When asked if having his mother there gave him an extra boost or motivation, Rempe responded humorously by saying that he always has "juice."

Rangers rookie Matt Rempe has had the game of his life, and the Madison Square Garden crowd couldn’t love him more. The game was special in so many ways for the 21-year-old, and his mother Janice Rempe being up there in the bleachers only added to the occasion.

In a post-game interview, when asked by NY Post’s Mollie Walker if his mother’s presence added ‘juice’ to his performance, Rempe humorously responded:

"I always got juice. I always got, always got some just juice. But obviously, " Matt Rempe said, evoking laughter in the locker room.

Rempe mentioned how he and his mom had spent time together the previous night by going out for dinner and exploring New York City, which was a new experience for her.

"I love her so much. I'm her biggest fan. We went out for dinner last night and walked around. She had never really been to New York, so we were just walking around. I bet she was pretty emotional today, so it was really cool," said Rempe.

He also acknowledged the immense support he received from fans who were chanting throughout the night in support of the team.

Matt Rempe scores maiden playoff career goal

Rempe’s playoffs debut with the New York Rangers was a memorable game for the rookie. He netted his first career playoff goal and did so in style to earn the lead for his team.

At 4:17 of the second period, Jimmy Vesey directed a heads-up pass to Rempe, who was positioned near the far post. Without hesitation, Rempe executed a quick one-timer, launching the puck into the net past Charlie Lindgren.

"All the guys coming and hugging me after. That was pretty cool," said Rempe when asked about his feelings after the goal. [H/T Hockey Feed]

Clearly, Matt Rempe is loving life in NY and will look to continue his performance in the next game for the Rangers.
