Wayne Gretzky weighs in on Trevor Zegras' future with Anaheim Ducks - "I'd be surprised if they moved him"
On last night's NHL on TNT segment, Wayne Gretzky, Paul Bissonnette, Anson Carter and Liam McHugh discussed Trevor Zegras and his future with the Anaheim Ducks.
Wayne Gretzky weighed on Trevor Zegras' future in Anaheim and said -
"We can't just give up on the guy and we kind of missed a lot action this year. Over the course of his career in minor hockey and then all the way up to the first couple of years in the NHL."
The hockey legend mentioned that despite Zegras' slow start to injuries and contract talks, he has tremendous ability and talent.
Wayne Gretzky also reckoned that Trevor Zegras still has a lot of potential, and it would be surprising if the Ducks were to trade him based on his current situation:
"You know, he's got tremendous ability and great talent. He got off to a slow start over the contract talks he was injured. Let's say let's not panic and the general managers good organizations don't panic, I would be surprised that they moved him."
Analysts believe the 23-year-old forward has a bright future with the Anaheim Ducks, especially given the team's pool of other talented young players.
Zegras had to miss 20 games due to an ankle injury this season. The 23-year-old forward returned from his injury during a game against the Seattle Kraken last week.
Wayne Gretzky recalls first interaction with Zdeno Chara
In the NHL on TNT post-game segment last week, NHL icon Wayne Gretzky shared a fascinating story of facing off with ex-Bruins captain Zdeno Chara for the first time.
"The Great One" said that he was impressed by Chara's presence during warm-up and made a point to communicate with the coach to ensure that he was on the ice whenever Chara was playing.
Recalling the incident, Gretzky said -
"Oh my gosh, the very first game we played against him, I watched him in warm-up and I remember thinking, wow, and I went into the coach's office. I don't really say a whole lot. I said listen every time that Number 3's out there, get me out there."
Wayne Gretzky added -
"The first year is a little bit like Bambi. For the second year, I said every time he's on the ice, be ready I'm coming off six months, and he figured it out and became one of the best defensemen we've ever had, but he was a big, big man; let me tell you."
