"I'm so p*ssed": Blackhawks' Nick Foligno shares brutally honest take on Bruins’ first-round collapse against Panthers in 2023
It's been over a year since Nick Foligno was a Boston Bruin. The now-captain of the Chicago Blackhawks spent two seasons in Boston, in both of which the team made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. But we all know that one of those postseason losses was not like the other.
After a record-setting 135 points in the regular season, the Bruins were expected nothing less than to win the Stanley Cup. With a 3-1 series lead over the bottom-seed Florida Panthers, it all was going to plan. Things changed very quickly. The Panthers stormed back to win the series 4-3, and the Bruins season is now known as a collapse and disappointment.
Nick Foligno and his old Bruins teammate and now Blackhawks teammate Taylor Hall went on the "WhatChaosShow" and were asked about blowing the 3-1 series lead in 2023. They still aren't over how the magical season ended.
"I'm so p*ssed," Foligno said. "I don't think any of us ever thought, maybe that's the fault we just thought we were gonna get that done," he added.
Foligno and Hall remain in disbelief about the loss. The ups and downs of the Stanley Cup Playoffs are what make it the best game in the world.
Nick Foligno has been quite productive in his stint with the Blackhawks
Nick Foligno was traded to Chicago in the 2023 offseason and signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Blackhawks. He had a strong season recording 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) in 74 games that year. His play earned him an extension with the team for two years, worth $4.5 million per season, $9 million total.
Foligno was then named the 35th captain in Chicago Blackhawk's history prior to the 2024-2025 campaign. So far, the 37-year-old has put up 13 points (seven goals, six assists) through 32 games this season.
His production on the ice and leadership mentoring young players like 19-year-old Connor Bedard have been valuable to the Blackhawks, making the veteran well worth the contract.
Foligno and the Blackhawks remain near the bottom of the standings as they continue their rebuild. With a record of 12-19-2 (26 points), they hope to begin turning things around sooner rather than later. That starts this afternoon when they face the Flames (15-11-7) in a matchup at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The puck drops at 4:00 p.m. EST.
