Brandon Montour, who won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers last season, signed with the Seattle Kraken in free agency. But as per the convention, he had his day with the Stanley Cup and his name engraved on the Trophy.
Montour and his wife, Ryian, shared a photo where their son, Kai, was pictured sitting in the Stanley Cup. Montour was wearing shorts and a half-shirt with a line print, while Ryian wore a white dress. In the photo shared, Kai had his small shoes popping out of the cup.
"Kai in the Cup!" she wrote in the caption of her IG post.
Two-mile parade to celebrate Brandon Montour's Stanley Cup win by natives of Six Nations of the Grand River
The people of the Six Nations of the Grand River honored Brandon Montour, who brought the Stanley Cup. Nearly 1,500 residents lined the streets to celebrate.
Montour is of Mohawk descent and grew up in Ohsweken, part of Six Nations. This community is the largest First Nation in Canada. He was born in Brantford, Ontario.
Hundreds of fans lined a two-mile parade route, wearing Montour Stanley Cup champion T-shirts. These shirts raised funds for local sports. Roadside mailboxes were decorated with red shirts. As Montour approached the arena, he lifted the Cup toward a house decorated with balloons and banners.
At the parade’s end, about 300 children waited to meet Montour and see the Cup. Montour talked about how his win might inspire local kids.
“I was a kid once and I grew up idolizing players, not just hockey but lacrosse,” Montour said. (via NHL.com)
“And I think when you have one of your own or somebody that's close to, even if you don't know me, reaching this level, especially on a day like today, it's just a bonus for any kid growing up that wants to reach that level."
"It's a privilege to play at this level," Montour added. "Today, I get to share it with everyone."
In the offseason, Montour signed a seven-year, $49.98 million contract with the Seattle Kraken.
