In Photos: Leafs' William Nylander links up with tennis player William Rejchtman at Centre Court in Wimbledon
William Nylander is enjoying his summer off. The Toronto Maple Leafs star has spent time relaxing at home with his dogs, but most recently, he surfaced at Wimbledon in pictures shared by tennis star Willian Rejchtman. The two posed for a couple of photos and seemingly played some tennis together. They also posed in front of Centre Court.
The two posed together on the court, but they also took a video embracing at the net on the court. This, plus the fact that each had a tennis racket, seemed to imply that they had just finished a friendly match.
The Maple Leafs have been hard at work trying to improve the team around Nylander. They have been active in free agency and in the NHL Draft, but Nylander is content to enjoy the offseason before he has to get back to work in the fall. That includes taking a trip to Wimbledon and playing some tennis.
Former GM says trading William Nylander might be smart
William Nylander is a star for the Toronto Maple Leafs and one of hockey's most prominent players. One of their best players, he is also a fan favorite. However, former GM Brian Burke believes that if the Maple Leafs trade any of their established players, it should be Nylander instead of Mitch Marner.
There was ample fan backlash to what Burke said, which was:
"Obviously, with no-trades and no-moves, you can really question the wisdom of all that, but it really is a case where you are going to have to convince one of these guys to get out."
He said that it's more logical to trade Nylander instead of Marner. However, Burke did concede that a Nylander trade was less likely than a Marner swap. The former GM also said that Marner is "a really important player" that kills penalties.
From his perspective, fans and others might be down on Marner presently, but they ought not forget how good he is. Burke considers Marner more valuable overall than William Nylander.
The offseason is far from over for Nylander and the Leafs, but it is currently unclear if they plan to make any other trades.
