Matt Duchene re-signs with Dallas Stars
Matt Duchene opted to return to the Dallas Stars as he signed a one-year deal worth $3 million. Duchene signed a one-year deal worth $3 million last offseason with Dallas after being bought out by the Nashville Predators. After a successful year, Duchene said he wanted to return to the Stars.
"I'd love to (stay). Yeah absolutely," Duchene said on June 4, via NHL.com. "It's kind of funny, of all the years I've lost out in the playoffs, this is easily the most disappointing and it feels almost like the season was a failure but it's not really. It's the total opposite. ... It was a great experience being here this year. If this group is able to stay together, which it looks like it should be able to, this is a great situation, absolutely."
Duchene ended up recording 25 goals and 40 assists for 65 points in his first year with Dallas, and Stars GM Jim Nill said he was eager to bring back Duchene.
"Matt was a tremendous addition to our team and played an integral role in our success last season," Nill said. "He fit in seamlessly, provided veteran leadership and fortified our group of forwards. We're thrilled to have him back in Dallas for another season."
Duchene has been in the NHL since the 2009-10 season after he was drafted third overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2009 NHL Draft. He has played for the Avalanche, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators, and the Stars.
