In Photos: Pens' Kris Letang unveils new pair of Nike's spectacular custom white skate creation
Pittsburgh Penguins alternate captain Kris Letang shared his new custom Nike skate collection in the offseason. The skates are inspired by the model Russian ice hockey great Sergei Fedorov wore a couple of decades ago.
While Nike dominates the footwear market across different sports in the US and around the world, it is not as popular when it comes to skates. But Kris Letang’s new skate collection makes one really think about that.
BR Open Ice posted the pictures of Letang’s white skate collection on their X account on Friday. They wrote:

The skates feature a sleek design with a silver, carbon fiber-like material and a metallic finish on the heel. The outer side of each skate has a blue Nike swoosh, complemented by a blue fleur-de-lis symbol near the heel.
The padded white tongues include Letang’s number "58" printed in blue, and the skates are equipped with traditional laces for a secure fit.
Fans react to Kris Letang’s new skates
Pictures of Kris Letang’s silver-white skates have been making rounds on the internet. NHL fans were quick to let their opinions be known in the comments.
Some found the design nostalgic and praised the skates. Following are some fan reactions from X/Twitter:
“Bringing back the white skates! I am for it!!!”
“Would look sick with the penguins powder blues,” quipped one fan.
“Played forever I like white skates. Idgaf those are cool,” wrote another user.
Meanwhile, some fans were not pleased with the design of the skates. Some even threw jabs at the brand.
“I was the first one I knew who put the Nike straps from the shoes on their skates? Way before any plastic coverings. Those look like something an NBA player should be wearing on their face not on skates,” commented one user.
“Immaculate is a wild overstatement,” wrote another fan.
“Nike continues to make the ugliest skates ever,” quipped another user.
As for the Penguins, they will be looking to regroup in the offseason and prepare well ahead of 2024-25. It could be one of the last few seasons for franchise legend Sidney Crosby and the Pens want to watch him lift another Stanley Cup.
