Shea Weber thanks David Poile and Barry Trotz during Hockey Hall of Fame induction speech
Shea Weber and David Poile, longtime members of the Nashville Predators organization, were inducted into the class of 2024 Hockey Hall of Fame.
Poile became the first GM in Predators history to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He led the franchise for 25 seasons and is the only GM in NHL history to lead two clubs to 1,000 wins. Before joining the Preds, Poile had a 15-year tenure with the Washington Capitals.
During HIS speech, former defenseman Shea Weber thanked David Poile and current Preds GM Barry Trotz, acknowledging their significant roles in his career. He said:
"I'd like to thank David Poile, Barry Trotz and the Predators for giving me a chance to live out my childhood dream in a city I now consider a second home."
Weber also thanked former GM Marc Bergevin for providing him the opportunity to thrive in Montreal. He then humorously acknowledged Poile's involvement in the trade that brought him to the Canadiens in 2016.
"I think I should be thanking David Poile for that too," he added.
Weber was drafted No. 49 overall by the Nashville Predators in the 2003 NHL draft. He played for 11 seasons with the club before his trade to the Montreal Canadiens in the 2016-17 season.
Weber appeared for the Canadiens in five seasons during his long 16-year career. He accumulated 589 points through 224 goals and 365 assists in his career with both clubs. He's currently under contract with the Utah Hockey Club.
