"It’s not that impossible" - Legendary NHL enforcer names 'perfect' trade destination for Sidney Crosby
Should the Pittsburgh Penguins continue to struggle, there are reports that they may consider an unthinkable Sidney Crosby trade. For 20 seasons, he's been with the team, but that may make him their greatest asset to kickstart a rebuild.
If they do decide to move on, which would be a shock and indicate a major rebuild is on the way, famed enforcer Georges Laraque believes there's a destination that makes sense for Crosby.
Laraque said the Montreal Canadiens would be a perfect new home in this hypothetical trade:
"Crosby, it’s been said in the past, I’ve played with him, he likes hockey markets. … Montreal, for him, would be perfect. He has family here. ... It’s not that impossible."
The former Edmonton Oilers star played two seasons in Montreal himself and believes the Pittsburgh star would fit right in. Right now, the Canadiens are three points behind the Penguins and are in eighth place in the Atlantic Division, so bringing in players may not make the most sense.
The Penguins, as rough as they've had it this year, are still in a better spot than the Canadiens. They are 12-14-4 and the Canadiens are 11-14-3.
NHL insider rips into Penguins fans for booing Sidney Crosby
During a power play in the third period of Tuesday night's game, which ended up being a 6-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche, Sidney Crosby and his linemates were booed by the home fans. It was a surprise for the player, who said there are times to be booed and this wasn't one of them.
Analyst Rob Rossi ripped into the fanbase:
"Booing when Crosby is on the ice isn’t a good look for Pittsburgh as a hockey market — not after everything he’s done for the Penguins and city, and certainly not when roughly 12,000 people bothered to show up to PPG Paints Arena."
Rossi also said that while fans do pay and the general idea is that they can do what they want at games, he doesn't subscribe to that.
