"It's more of a phobia": Connor McDavid delves deeper into his fear of ketchup after wife Lauren Kyle's big revelation

Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid has revealed more details about his strange phobia of ketchup after his wife Lauren Kyle had spoken about it publicly in the new Amazon Prime series “FACEOFF: Inside the NHL.”

In the show, Kyle discloses that McDavid is so afraid of ketchup that she has to have their personal chef sneak it to her discreetly during meals so that her husband doesn’t notice.

“Connor is afraid of ketchup,” she says. “So Sheridan, he always, like, sneakily brings it over to me, because he knows I like it.”

McDavid opened up about this bizarre quirk during an interview with NHL on ESPN’s P.K. Subban. When asked about his ketchup phobia, the three-time NHL scoring champion admitted that it has been an issue since childhood.

“The ketchup thing is a funny thing. My brother and I, we both grew up that way. It’s more of a phobia,” McDavid said.
“I wish I could tell you more about it. I don't know why it is that way, it's just something that, you know, never got into with, you know, my brother and I, and it's kind of stuck as more of a phobia.”

Subban reassured McDavid that he can avoid ketchup as long as he keeps up his incredible production.

“If it's a phobia, I think I share on behalf of the whole NHL, there's about 700 players that would like the same phobia that you have, because if it's gonna amount in 175 points, 200 points a season, I'll take it. So, you don't have to eat ketchup, it's all good Connor.”

Last season, McDavid scored 32 goals and assisted 100, resulting in 132 points. In the playoffs, he scored 42 points.

Connor McDavid anticipates fans will experience unexpected emotions in the Amazon series

During the NHL Player Media Tour last month, Connor McDavid opened up about the challenges of having cameras capture the raw, unscripted moments of his life and career.

“Very difficult to have cameras around in some of those moments, for sure,” McDavid admitted.

The Edmonton Oilers captain anticipates that fans will witness unexpected emotions throughout the series, offering a glimpse into the intense world of professional hockey.

“I think fans are going to see some things maybe they’re not expecting, in terms of the emotions and stuff like that. Emotions run high.” he noted,

Connor McDavid hinted that viewers might be surprised by the candidness and vulnerability on display.
