NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins at Calgary Flames

Jarome Iginla's son and top draft prospect Tij Iginla opens up about the Calgary Flames possibly drafting him

Tij Iginla, the son of Hockey Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla, says it would be cool to be drafted by the Calgary Flames.

Iginla is projected to be a top-15 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, and one team linked to him is the Flames at pick No. 9. Of course, Tij's dad is Jarome, who played for Calgary from 1995 until 2013 and has his jersey retired by the team.

With Iginla being one of the best Flames players in history, fans have been calling for the team to draft his son Tij, which he says would be "cool."

"It sounds like it would be a lot of fun and would be a cool opportunity. Obviously, I don't know exactly how things are going to shake out, and I'm going to try not to speculate too much, but I know they are there and at pick nine or whatever it is, and I guess we will have to see how it goes, but that would definitely pretty cool," Tij Iginla said.

If Calgary drafts Tij Iginla at No. 9, he would be selected two picks earlier than his dad. Although he would have bragging rights over that, Tij knows he has a long way to go to match his dad's career

"Yeah maybe a little bit, but he had a pretty strong career so draft only means so much. I'll have to strat chipping away at those achievements if I want those bragging rights."

Jarome finished his career with 1,300 points in 1,554 games and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020.

Where is Tij Iginla expected to be drafted?

Tij Iginla is expected to be drafted in the first 15 picks and could be a top-10 pick.

In TSN's Bob McKenzie's latest draft rankings, he has Iginla as the 10th-ranked prospect heading into the 2024 NHL draft.

"The son of former NHL star Jarome Iginla has had a meteoric rise from No. 16 at midseason to No. 10 now and is coming off a particularly strong performance for gold-medal winning Canada at the U-18 World Championship," McKenzie wrote.

Tij Iginla recorded 47 goals and 37 assists for 84 points in 64 games with the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL this season.
