Jason Strudwick recalls hilarious time when Jaromir Jagr paid him $1000 to hangout with his then-girlfriend

Former NHLer Jason Strudwick shared an amusing anecdote on the "Spittin' Chiclets Podcast" about the time Jaromir Jagr paid him to hang out with his then-girlfriend.

Strudwick shared that Jagr, who had a girlfriend at the time, sometimes preferred not to go out. Given that Strudwick and his wife were newly married, Jagr asked if they were planning to go out.

Jaromir Jagr then offered to have his girlfriend accompany them for the evening.

"You know, he [Jaromir Jagr] had a girlfriend at the time. He didn't necessarily always want to go out. My wife and I were, you know, just married. So because of that, he was like, Hey, man, like, are you going out tonight? I'm gonna go with my wife Saturday night, whatever. We'll go to whatever dance bar. He's like, well, here. My girlfriend would like to come," Strudwick said.

Strudwick humorously recounted how Jagr gave him $1,000 to take his girlfriend out. The former Edmonton Oilers defenseman followed through, treating Jagr's girlfriend to dinner and drinks on the 52-year-old's Czech's dime.

The night included dancing, with Jason Strudwick praising Jagr's girlfriend's dancing skills. Strudwick and his wife eventually intervened to wrap up the night around 2:30 in the morning.

"He gives me like a thousand bucks; he's like, take her out. I'm like, Oh, you got it. So we go out and then take her for dinner on his money. Go for drinks after, and they're all dancing. She's an amazing dancer. My wife and I'd go and break up, you know, push the guys back there like at 2:30 in the morning," he continued.

Strudwicck humorously mentioned keeping a small portion for himself as a token of appreciation for the effort involved in escorting Jaromir Jagr's then-girlfriend to the entertainment evening.

"I'm like, we're done, so we jump in a car and I'd take her home. I'd call Jags, Hey, we're coming; he was like, Ok, thank you. And she'd go up. The next one, he's like, Do you have enough money? Yeah, we were good. I mean, I kept a little for myself, like a little for the effort," Strudwick added.

At 53, Jaromir Jagr is still playing professional hockey. He currently plays for Rytiri Kladno of the EHL's Czech Extraliga. Notably, he's also the president and owner of the club.

Jagr was drafted No. 5 overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1990 NHL draft. He had a long 24-year career in the NHL and played for eight different teams in addition to the Penguins.

He won two Stanley Cups with the Pens. Jagr accumulated 1,921 points through 766 goals and 1,155 assists in 1,733 games.
