Jeremy Swayman reflects on Red Sox legend Tim Wakefield's impact on his life, pledges to honor Hall of Famer's legacy

Jeremy Swayman will be the Boston Bruins' main goaltender this season. Last year, Linus Ullmark was there to share responsibilities with Swayman. But in June, the Bruins traded Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators. It will be interesting to see how Swayman handles these responsibilities this season.

Swayman has shown he can live up to expectations. He has spoken about the impact of Red Sox legend Tim Wakefield on him.

On Wednesday, while speaking with New England Sports Network, Swayman said:

"I got to meet Wake one time, and the impact that one conversation had on me will stick with me for the rest of my life. I got to learn about his involvement with the Jimmy Fund and his involvement with the community... I don't think there's many more that have done a better job than Wake."

Swayman pledged to honor Wakefield’s legacy by treating his teammates and the community with the same respect and care.

It's my job, my teammates' jobs, it's everyone's job in this community to do it how Wake did it... " Swayman said. "I'm gonna make sure I'm honoring him and how I treat my teammates, with how I treat the community, with how everyone around me, and that's something I'll always cherish, that conversation with him."

The Boston Bruins have Jeremy Swayman's confidence

Jeremy Swayman isn't worried about his contract talks with the Boston Bruins. The Bruins still have over $9 million in cap space, allowing them to offer Swayman a good deal.

“There’s a lot of confidence,” Swayman said on NESN “And I say that because I’ve treated it like business as usual this year... And I know that there’s something special building in this locker room this year, and I can’t be more excited about that... I know, again, it will work out, and I couldn’t be happier to be a Bruin.”

Swayman is set to lead the charge as the season starts. Fans can expect updates closer to September, just before training camp.
