Johnny Gaudreau's dad, Guy, makes his feelings known about joining Flames practice with players mourning No. 13's death
Johnny Gaudreau's father, Guy, share his feelings about participating in the Calgary Flames practice' as players mourned the loss of Johnny.
The Gaudreau family observed from the stands as Johnny's teams, the Calgary Flames and the Columbus Blue Jackets, faced off at the Scotiabank Saddledome Arena on Tuesday night.
Before the first period, the Flames had a pregame ceremony that featured a video tribute and a ceremonial puck drop led by Guy Gaudreau. After the game, Johnny's dad shared his appreciation for the support from the Flames fans. He said (0:46):
"I don't think there's any fans like Calgary fans, and they threw out the whole ceremony.
"They're very supportive of Jane and I, my grandchildren, and Meredith and my two daughters. We've went through some hard times, but it's good to have that kind of support. And we love the fans here."
Huy traveled to Calgary this weekend and participated in practice with the Flames players ahead of their game. He noted that the players he knows from when Johnny played were visibly affected by the loss, just like himself and his wife.
Guy expressed gratitude for the warm treatment they received from the community.
"It's nice to have people hug you and tell you they love you. And, my son, John, loved it here, and he created something here for our family, which we love here. So it's been really great," he added.
The hockey world was shocked by the tragic deaths of Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew. On Aug. 29, the two brothers lost their lives in an accident when they were struck by an alleged drunk driver while riding their bicycles near their home in Salem County.
Johnny Gaudreau named first star of the game
On Tuesday, the Calgary Flames shut out the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-0 to snap their four-game losing skid. Rasmus Andersson, Kevin Bahl and Yegor Sharangovich were the scorers for the Flames.
Michael Backlund accumulated two points. Johnny Gaudreau was named the first star of the game, while Andersson and Backlund were the second and third stars for Calgary.
In his 11-year NHL career, Johhny Gaudreau played nine seasons with the Flames, registering 609 points (210 goals and 399 assists) in 602 games
