Johnny Gaudreau's widow Meredith reminisces his 2022 Game 7 series winner for Calgary Flames
Johnny Gaudreau's widow Meredith fondly reminisced his 2022-23 Game 7 overtime series winner for the Calgary Flames against the Dallas Stars in the first round of the playoffs. Gaudreau's goal in overtime gave the Flames a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Stars to win the series.
Johnny and his brother Matthew died in a tragic biking accident near their New Jersey home on Aug. 29.
A Instagram fan of Gaudreau's with the username "johnnyhockeyfan_13" recently posted a video of Gaudreau's post-game interview after his dramatic Game 7 winner.
In response to the fan's post, Meredith recalled that special night and game, saying:
"We went out as a team this night and I remember John said to me that it was the coolest thing he's ever been part of."
"This highlight video has made me tear up ever since that night in May 2022. And I've watched it countless times. He would laugh at me as I watched it trying to hold back tears. I was so proud and I knew how happy John was. All I cared about."
Meredith celebrated their daughter Noa's 2nd birthday this week. She shared heartwarming photos of Noa smiling on her special day, including loving birthday messages from Johnny's teammates' families.
Meredith recalls Johnny Gaudreau's training session with his dad
Meredith Gaudreau recalled her father-in-law Guy Gaudreau's intense training sessions with Johnny Gaudreau when he was younger.
Guy Gaudreau served as a guest coach at the Philadelphia Flyers training camp last week at the invitation of Flyers coach John Tortorella.
On her Instagram story, Meredith reminisced about how close Johnny Gaudreau was with his dad Guy and the tough training he would put him through.
"He skated John all summer. Multiple times a week. And John would call me and say "my dad is a crazy person" after each session but then would call his dad later that night and say "hey pops, want to call for some ice tomorrow?"
Guy Gaudreau worked as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Flyers Elite 14U AAA team in the 2021-22 season. He was previously the head coach at Gloucester Catholic from 2006 to 2018.
